Amulet 1 by Kazu Kibuishi
So when I was first writing my Readers Autobiography I decided to talk about Amulet in the rough draft and I said that when I was a kid I thought it was boring to read, mainly because the dialogue felt like too much for me at the time but a few weeks ago I decided to reread the series and I was actually pretty engaged with it now that I could understand, I found it quite interesting and it was actually much shorter than I thought it was compared to when I was younger.
In case you haven't already read this book yet, the main character Emily Hayes is someone who has been through things as a kid what caused her change in demeanor as a kid was when her father died in a car accident which turned her from a playful child to quiet, serious mature person. 2 years after her fathers death, her mom decides for the family to move to a far away place in the countryside where her great grandfather used to live in. As they start to clean the house Emily finds a red amulet that used to belong to her great-grandfather. This was the moment that changed her life forever as she became a stone keeper and she had to carry on the destiny of her great-grandfather. I won't spoil any more for the people who haven't read the book.
What made this book so interesting to me was how complex it was and the amount of character development as the series goes on we see the characters turn into more mature characters as they choose the follow the destiny that was given to them despite their just being young children who would understandably be reluctant to follow it. It also has a really interesting history and there is a lot of diversity with many different cultures such as anthropomorphic animals humans and also elves done in a very nice art style.

Hi Elliot! I think that you touched on a very interesting topic in read. Its so interesting how books change with us and may even make us have different perspectives on the reading material. I hope it was an enjoyable read!
ReplyDeleteHi Elliot! This book brings me a lot of good memories, as it is one of my first English books I've read when I was young. I believe it is one-of-a-kind. Great job!
ReplyDeleteAmulet was one of my favorite series as a kid! This review brings back so many memories of Anthony and I reading together in the Library!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Henry!! In elementary school, I remember being very sad when other people stole the only copies of Amulet in our library. Good times reading with Henry!!
DeleteHi Elliot, I remember reading this book series as a kid, and I enjoyed this a lot when I was younger. Good Review!
ReplyDeleteNo way the memories are rushing back! I love these books and I really hope they get some TV show/movie adaptation. Or maybe not due to modern movie adaptations of books 😅. This book was similar to dog man where if you didn't have the newest one no one would want to talk to you.
ReplyDeleteI really thought this book would be cool as a TV show too!
DeleteHey Elliot! I very distantly remember reading this book when I was much younger, so reading this psost sent me through waves of nostalgia as I had completely forgotten about it's existence. Thanks for the blog!
ReplyDeleteHi Elliott, I also remember reading this book series when I was young and I read through them very quickly. I like how you emphasized what caused the change in Emily's personality. I'll definitely take a look at those books again.
