The False Prince-Krish

The False Prince Book Review

I first heard about this book from my mom. It was a normal day, and I was just sitting around on the couch when my mom told me about this book. She had read this book nearly 5 years ago and had set a Google Calendar reminder to tell me about this book five years later. She was just trying to test if Google Calendar worked. But it worked! Now, I decided to read this book because of my mom's recommendation, and it was a pretty good book.

False Prince is set in a fictional kingdom where the king has just died. A nobleman named Conner devises a plan to find an impersonator of the king's long-lost son and install him as a puppet prince to unify a discontented kingdom. He decides to train three candidates to impersonate the prince. This book follows one of the three people he decides to train, Sage, and his story.

I enjoyed False Prince a lot and it was very entertaining. Jennifer A. Nielsen has a unique way of bringing out each character's personality in her writing. She does a lot of showing and not telling, and lets the character's actions describe their personalities. I also like the fact that she decided to do a first-person narrative instead of switching between different characters' perspectives. I prefer sticking to the narrative of one character, instead of switching between characters because it allows you to enter the character's shoes, and makes the book easier to read.
While there are many things about this book that I like, I have one main complaint about it. I felt that the book was a bit too predictable in its plot. While there were one or two good twists, you could sense the plot of the book while reading, and you already knew what was going to happen. However, even though the plot was predictable, the way it was written made me want to read the book even more. It’s like a movie, that you already know the plot off, but you still want to watch it because of the way it was directed. This book is similar, even though I already knew the plot from the get-go, I still wanted to read it because of how well it was written.

The False Prince is an amazing book that I think you should read. Its writing style and character development are outstanding, and one of the main reasons why it's a good book. To conclude, I will give this book a 4/5, and will recommend it to anyone who wants a good read!

  1. Krish, this book seems interesting and I had never read a book in the more "medieval" genre. Good Job!

  3. Wow, Krish, this sounds like an interesting book! Maybe I should think about reading books and stories from the medieval times more often. I also found your description of how you heard about the False Prince extremely interesting, as if you were writing your own book! Great blog!

  4. Hi Krish! Interesting story of how you got to read this book! I typically find it annoying whenever I read a book that seems to predictable, but maybe this one could be an exception. I might check this one out. Great review!

  5. The backstory to reading this book is just as interesting as the book itself! Overall, I enjoyed your blog, and understand the annoyance when a book is too predictable.
